Quick Croutons

Some of the Parmesan, Asiago and Romano bread that I made started to get stale this morning so I decided there’s nothing better to use it for than some hot, crunchy croutons. OMG, y’all, these croutons are so good. I caught myself continuing to grab more to snack on throughout the day. The cheese in the bread really helps build a crunchy and salty crouton. These are SO GOOD!

PS- You could also use hot dog or hamburger buns instead of bread. I do this anytime I have leftover buns. The butter content in buns is relatively high so they crisp up very well in the oven without much olive oil. If you use hotdog/ hamburger buns just keep an eye on the time because you may need to cut back on time.

Ingredients:

  • 3 slices of bread cut 1 to 1.5 inches thick (Parm, Asiago and Romano bread recipe here)

  • 1/4 cup olive oil

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 3 garlic cloves

  • 1 teaspoon dried basil

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Cut the bread into large, but still bite size pieces. Toss into a bowl.

  2. Drizzle the olive oil into the bowl while using one hand to toss the bread. Grate the garlic using a microplane and add to the bowl along with salt and basil. Toss well. Pour the croutons onto a foil-lined baking sheet. Bake in the oven for 10-15 minutes.
