Homemade Bitters
Bitters are such a fun way to spruce up cocktails. Turns out they are pretty easy to make as well! I made two different batches - Lavender bitters and Lemon Bitters. My favorite way to use these bitters are in martinis. (See the Moore Food Martini recipe here.)
Lavender Bitters
Ingredients:
1 cup high proof Vodka or Everclear
3/4 cup dried Lavender
1 tablespoon Cloves
5 Star Anise pods
1 vanilla bean
Orange Zest from one Orange
Lemon Bitters
1 cup high proof Vodka or Everclear
1 tablespoon cloves
3 Star Anise Pods
1 tablespoon Juniper Berries
1 tablespoon Cardamom Pods
Zests from 2 lemons
1 vanilla bean
Directions for making bitters:
Mix ingredients in a pint jar with the liquor of your choice. Let the jar sit for two weeks, shaking every couple of days.
After two weeks, strain through a coffee filter or these cloth. Fill into dropper bottles and use in any cocktail that you like.
